If you are aspiring to learn a musical instrument, what will it be? Will you want to play the guitar or the piano? There has been an ongoing debate about which instrument is easier to learn for a beginner.
Some would say that it is harder to play the guitar because in order to play a particular chord right, you have to have strong fingers and calloused fingertips, just to start with. You have to know how to press the strings right first. A beginner would have to endure with the pain in their fingers caused by friction and pressure.
Piano on the other hand only requires you to know how to press highly polished keys, which obviously hurt the fingers less. Learning how to play the piano provides an understanding of notes, and hence you only have to focus on the notes at the music sheet while at the same time, pressing the right keys. In guitar, you have to learn how to strum right and hold the correct keys at the same time, before you can accomplish any melody.
Some believe that learning how to play the piano is more difficult. For a start, guitars can be self-taught, whereas most of the time, you need a tutor in order to learn how to play the piano. In order to play the piano, you have to learn the basics of music first. Even though this can also be considered a positive thing, since this way you can have a good foundation on music, it is still much like learning a language from scratch.
Unfortunately, the older you get the longer it takes before you achieve any significant progress. At the start, you would only get to play simple pieces that you can’t sing to, or children’s pieces which makes the piano boring for some. Also the drawback of having to play by notes is that you have to learn how to read sheet music. Unlike guitar chord music, which is always available online for free, music sheets and piano chord music are most times much harder to obtain and most times are not free.
The only exception to this is if you learn how to play chords in piano. This will enable you to play any genre on the piano. Once you have mastered reading chords, you won’t have to learn reading a music sheet. You’ll be playing the piano the same way that you would play the guitar, minus the burning fingertips.
Piano and guitar are two different instruments which you play using chords. Once you’ve learned one, it won’t be difficult to switch to the other instrument. Both have its pros and cons. In the end, it’s best to choose what you’d like to play more. Learning any instrument is not an easy thing to do. You have to endure many practice hours, and to accomplish that, you have to be more than just interested. You have to love whatever instrument you are trying to master.
